2007 Mazda B3000 Review
Ford Motor Company has owned a controlling interest in Mazda since 1996, and this association has moved into the area of platform sharing. The Mazda line of pickup trucks and the Ford Ranger share a similar platform. Mazda has named its B line of trucks after the size of the engine for several years now, and the B3000 gets its name from its 3.0 liter V-6 engine. This engine is capable of 148 horsepower, and is coupled with a choice between a 5 speed manual and a 5 speed automatic transmission. Both transmissions are equipped with overdrive. The B3000 comes with four wheel drive, and has front disc, and rear drum brakes standard.
Unlike the B2300, the B3000 is available in either 2 door or 4 door configuration, although both styles have rear seating. The cargo bed is 71.8” long, and the truck has a respectable payload of 1,680 pounds. The estimated MPG figures are 18 city and 23 highway. There is a nice choice of exterior colors with two new colors, Pueblo Gold and Vista Blue, being added in 2007. Although not quite to the luxury standards of many other pickups, the interior is well laid out, and comfortable. A low tire pressure warning light was added this year. Driver front impact airbags are standard, as is a cancelable passenger side bag.
The Mazda B series pickups are not among the best selling trucks, and it is important to know that the trucks produced overseas and sold in other parts of the world differ greatly from the B series trucks. They do hold their value well, and are priced at a very affordable price. They are also backed by a 36 month or 36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. If you are in the market for a lower priced all purpose small truck, the B3000 is certainly worth a look.
