2007 Ford F-150 Review

The first thing that grabs your attention when you look at the 2007 Ford F150 is its Best-in-Class victories. In a class that is defined as properly equipped Full-size Pickups under 8500 lbs of GVWR and priced below $39,000, The F-series has been the best selling for 29 straight years. It has the highest towing figure: 10,500 pounds; the best payload: 3050 pounds; best selection of models, best passenger room, best cargo box volume, and the strongest frame.

The next thing that will blow you away is the incredible selection of styles, colors, engine sizes, interior trim, and optional accessories that allow a buyer to match the F-150 to pretty much exactly what he is seeking. It begins with five basic models starting with the XL and ending with the top of the line Lariat. The standard feature list for all models includes 44 different items. These range from the expected spare tire to the rather surprising tire pressure monitoring system. There are a total of 13 color choices, and 16 interior trim options.

The king of the engine packages is the 5.4 liter 3-Valve Triton V8 that cranks out 300 horse power at 5000 rpms, and 365 foot pounds of torque at 3750 rpms. The Triton V-8’s all come with 4-speed automatics with overdrive, but the smaller 4.2L EFI V6 is available with an optional five speed manual. A fact that jumps out of the spec sheet when looking at the engines is that the five speed manual with the V6 engine has only a single mile per gallon advantage over the powerful V8 automatic in both city and highway EPA estimated fuel economy figures. Apparently, the Triton V8’s are not gas guzzlers.

The equipment accessory packages are so extensive that it makes you feel like a person starring at the buffet table in an all you can eat restaurant. Where do you begin? The Lariat is a good example. A slim line DVD entertainment center with an 8” screen is available to be mounted in the rear of the SuperCab and SuperCrew body styles. You can also opt for Sirius Satellite Radio or a new DVD based navigation system while you relax in individually heated bucket seats.

A short overview can not even come close to giving a feel for the tremendous variety you can find in the F-150, but regardless of how it is equipped there is no doubt that this is one of the top choices in the midsize pickup truck class.  If it is not “Best-in-Class” as its maker claims, it is certainly way up there, and the sales figures mean that the truck buying public sees it that way, too. All Ford trucks combine toughness and comfort with a smooth and reliable ride. An important “best” that is often overlooked is the five star safety rating that has been given to the F-150 in crash tests. That might very well be the best “best” of all.
